Stop Employee Theft before it Happens!

February 8, 2010

Employee theft can be considered an ugly topic, one most business owners do not want to even think about until they have to.

How could any loyal, trustworthy employee steal from the company? Well unfortunately they will if given the opportunity. Especially during these trying economic times, people may become reckless and despondent.

Don’t give employees the opportunity to steal from you! Protect your valuable assets & property by following these simple guidelines.

  • IDENTIFY PROPERTY

Label all equipment with your company name, number or barcode using Property ID labels & tags. Label all your property including computers, laptops, printers, copiers, tools, furniture, fax machines, telephones, machinery and cabinets.

  • INSTALL MONITORING DEVICES

Install surveillance cameras at entrances and in hallways. Implement an employee badge system required for entering the facility and or special areas of the building. Put up proper signage to alert employees and visitors of security measures that are in place.

  • INFORM EMPLOYEES

Make sure that employees know that the company is taking steps to protect their assets. Have managers talk to their teams and have them field any questions or concerns employees might have. Employees who think they might get caught stealing will be less likely to attempt it.

According to the U.S. Chamber of commerce internal employee theft occurs 15 times as often as external theft costing businesses between $20-$40 billion annually.

Don’t wait for theft to happen to you. Put a complete security system into action today to protect your assets & valuables!
